Differences in the 3/7 Smart Source: Idaho Statesman vs Idaho Press Tribune

Rather than bore you with a long story, I'll just tell you that for the past few Sundays, I've been getting SIX copies of The Idaho Press Tribune, and EIGHT copies of The Idaho Statesman. Yesterday as I started to stack my inserts, I was working on the Smart Source. Before I knew it, I was very confused! Suddenly I started seeing coupons in one SS insert that weren't in the other SS insert! I immediately took a look at the binding on the inserts. Sure enough, they were two different inserts!

I knew there would be a few times in the year that The Idaho Statesman would get a separate General Mills insert that the Idaho Press Tribune (and many other Idaho papers) would NOT get. Needless to say, I was surprised to see the Smart Source insert from each paper holding different coupons inside!

Here is what the Statesman got that the Press Tribune (and many other Southern and Eastern Idaho papers) did NOT get:
Betty Crocker Fruit Snacks, all varieties .50/2
Chex Mix Bars, any flavor .50/1
Chocolate Chex Mix, 4.5 oz or larger .50/1
Fiber One 90 Calorie Chewy Bars .50/1
Fiber One Cereals $1/2
Fiber One Chewy Bars .50/2
General Mills cereals, variety listed $1/1
Green Giant Valley Fresh Steamers frozen vegetables .50/2
Hamburger, Tuna, or Chicken Helper .75/3
Nature Valley Granola Bars or Granola Nut Clusters .40/1
Pillsbury Grands! Biscuits .30/2
Pillsbury Savorings Products $1/2
Pillsbury Sweet Rolls or Grands! Sweet Rolls .40/2
Pillsbury Toaster Strudel Pastries .40/2
Romano's Macaroni Grill Dinner Kit $1/1
Wanchai Ferry Dinner Kit $1/1
Wanchai Ferry Frozen Entrée $1.50/1

  • Yes, those are some pretty good coupons.
  • Yes, you'll find many of these couposn at some point over at coupons.com and many General Mills company websites - i.e. {Betty Crocker}{Box Tops for Education} and{Pillsbury}.
  • BUT - every single one of these coupons listed above CAN BE DOUBLED (in most cases, the internet printable coupons CAN'T).

For me, it was enough to switch over to get The Idaho Statesman Multiple Subscription Newspaper Deal. You can read all about our multiple subscription deals here if you're interested in making the switch, or if you're just feeling ready to take your stockpile efforts to the next level!

This is the same reason I switched to the Statesman last year and I havn't ever regretted it. There are also more store ads in the Statesman and the delivery has been more reliable in my area.

I noticed and I don't know if this goes for all the other Oregonians (I'm in NW Oregon). That I didn't get the Almay BOGO coupon. So that was a bummer.

I get 1 Press Tribune, we live in Melba and like to keep up on local stuff, but I get 5 Statesman and have notice quite a difference, I make sure when I sort my Press cpns becuz they will be different. Funny because I think both the Tribune and Statesman are printed at the same location in Nampa.

Portland, OR gets all the good coupons and Vancouver, WA gets left out. I can see Portland from my apartment!! Luckily, we can also buy the Portland paper on this side of the river.

FYI... I just came up for renewal on my Fab5 deal... and NO, I was not able to get the same deal this time around. My daily paper went up from $1.06/week to $2.12 per week. My Sunday subscriptions (for an additional 4 Sunday papers) stayed the same price as last time ($2.12/week for 4 papers). What's interesting... I asked if I needed to keep my daily paper in order to get my special price for the Sunday papers. The answer was NO! So, I added one more Sunday paper to my subscription (to keep my Sunday papers at five). Now my total subscription is $2.65/week (just .53 per paper)! $68.90 for 26 weeks. This is good news for those with renewals coming up!

I've noticed this in WA too. The Seattle Times has better SS coupons but no longer carries the RP insert. So I choose to pick up the Tacoma Tribune which does have the RP inserts...I just miss out on a few coupons here and there. What's a couponer to do?

Frustrated too, I just started to realize the difference, when I asked before I signed up they said I would only miss one or two, but every week has been different, I've missed out on some good ones!=(
