It's so exciting getting free stuff in the mail. In January this year, as part of my new commitment to budgeting and couponing and stuff, I decided to see if the free samples thing would pay off, so I started reading a couple of blogs like Deal Seeking Mom and Common Sense with Money. I sign up for one or two free samples just about everyday now, and just about everyday, there is some kind of free thing in my mail. Sometimes they're awesome. Sometimes they're only OK. The recent Kashi Heart-to-Heart sample that I just got yesterday was really, really awesome because not only was it a free little box of cereal, but it came with four coupons, including one for a FREE box of Kashi cereal or crackers. The other 3 coupons are for $1.50 off. Sweet!
Anyway, so, yes, they do come, and while it's not like you can live off of just free samples, they're fun and free and, for us, they complement the couponing nicely.
