I have a question for my fellow couponers. When you use doublers, does it reduce your sales tax?

Now, of course, in theory it shouldn't. But, it has been for me. Whatever the tax would be on the amount being doubled, that amount is taken off my total.

For example, this morning in one transaction I bought 3 bottles of the soda ice cream syrup @ $2 each. I used coupons and doublers to make my subtotal equal $0. But, $6 in product should've meant $0.36 in tax. Instead it was $0.18.

I did 4 different transactions, buying the syrups, the TollHouse cookies, Bagel Bites and the Totino's Pizza Rolls. The same tax reduction happened on every single transaction.

I actually noticed it doing this awhile ago. When the Campbell's Soup at Hand was 10 for $10 and there was the $0.50 coupon + doublers, every 3 cans of soup I bought was $0.09 out of pocket. But, I just finally today had a cashier who realized it, too.

So, have any of the rest of you encountered this?

Ginger - because Albertson's "Twice the Value" or double coupons are a store coupon - it is like getting a sale price on the product, therefore is not subject to sales tax. Just like if you buy an item on sale you don't pay sales tax on the regular price. So you will pay tax on manufacturer's coupons, but not on store coupons. I checked on this before too!

I figured it was something like that, but the cashier, and the manager she called over, apparently hadn't noticed it before and were confused.

Seriously can anybody answer this question? What is the General Mills insert? And does the Press Tribune get it? I have not received one.
Thank you!

Hey Smiling Mama - Sadly, the Press Tribune did NOT get it! I too get the Press Tribune and was way bummed. I think this is the 3rd time we've been shorted one of the inserts and I'm highly considering switching over to the Statesman... just need to get enough cash together to pay for the full year (cuz I really want to lock in that price!). There are some good coupons in the General Mills insert so I think I'm going to run to Walmart or Winco and purchase a few so I can have these in my stash.

Here is the info on The Idaho Statesman if you're interested.

Thank you Cathy. I thought that I got left out. I feel the same with switching over. I just didn't want to have to pay that much up front. I like paying monthly. Maybe I'll tell my husband that I'll take a subscription to the Idaho Statesman for an early Christmas gift. :-) LOL
Thanks for the info.

Hey CATHY, I am planning on bringing you the GM inserts I got from my neighbor(s). Have not seen the one from Gloria yet.
So at least one. Keep that in mind when you make your Winco run!
I actually cut all of my coupons on sunday during conference, and I do not want to cut anymore, besides I don't mind sharing with my buddy!
