Some FABULESS news!!

The Pinching Your Pennies/Grocery Smarts Printable Albertsons Shopping List is now available for IDAHO readers!

In the past, we've had to use the list that was customized for Utah. Since the ad was always the same, it wasn't THAT big of a deal, but the coupon match ups were at times wrong since we don't always get the coupons our Utah friends do.

Check out our pictorial if you're not sure how to use this VERY Fabuless and time saving tool!

Make your list - maximize your savings by only purchasing those 4 and 5 star deals!! Let us know how it works out for you!

HAPPY BACK

One of the things I love about teaching the coupon classes is meeting our FABULESS blog readers!! A few weeks ago we met Liz, whose husband is a chiropractor.

I love chiropractors. I keep telling my 13 year old that he needs to be a chiropractor so he can take care of his mama when he grows up! I've been going to a chiropractor off and on since I was 14 years old.

So obviously I think Chiropractors are da bomb! This is why I'm THRILLED to tell you about Dr. Nathan Olsen, and what he is offering to our readers!!!

Last week I met with Dr. Olsen and was immediately impressed with the atmosphere of his office. The staff was kind, and it was a clean, relaxing environment. (There is even a kids toy room to entertain my little ones if I need to bring them!) I felt at ease with the warmth and friendliness of Dr. Olsen. What I am really excited about is that he specializes in deep muscle treatment. If you could feel the knots in my back, you'd know I really need some muscle work done!!

Here is what he is offering our Fabuless readers!

Print out this lovely coupon, and make an appointment (tell them Fabulessly Frugal sent you!) to meet with Dr. Olsen (call 884-5000).

He is offering:
  • Full set of x-rays and an Exam

  • A consultation - where he will let you know what is going on with your spine and how it is affecting your body (you're probably feeling it!)

  • The first treatment as well! (ah, relief!)
This wonderful offer is valued at $225!!! And you can get ALL OF THIS for a simple price of $10.00 and a bag of groceries, toiletries and/or clothing to donate to the Women and Children's Alliance! (What a wonderful way to bless others by using your stockpile of goodies!!)

This offer expires May 31st **UPDATE** EXTENDED THROUGH JUNE 30TH!! Click here to print up your coupon and call Dr. Olsen's office (conveniently located on Meridian Road between Franklin and Cherry) today to make your appointment. I PROMISE you will feel better because of it!

And for our Fabuless Nampa/Caldwell friends, he ALSO has a satellite location in Nampa (924 3rd St)!! Call the Nampa office at 461-6523 for details and to make an appointment!

What are you waiting for? This is a FABULESS deal and your body will most certainly thank you for it!!

ps - If you have insurance, and you bring this FABULESS coupon in, the entire $225 will go towards your yearly deductible, even though you only pay $10! Fabuless!

pss - Stay tuned for a FAB Giveaway thanks to Dr. Olsen, just in time for Mothers Day!

She Said I Did FABULESS

I had fun this afternoon at Albertsons, and just had to share.

I was a bit in a rush, so I quickly gathered a few coupons and headed over to my 5 & O Albies. I had a rain check for Quaker Oatmeal (back in January) that I needed to use before my $1/1 coupons expired.

I also wanted to take advantage of the movie deal - and bought 10 boxes of Kellogg's and finally used my $1.50/1 coupons I bought on eBay a while ago (cereal came to $1/box... not too bad!).

And lastly I wanted to grab a few things on the Kraft/GM Deal.

So off I went. At check out, I was counting my cash and hoped my $40 would cover it. (Didn't calculate at all here!)

Before I knew it (she was an awesome cashier), she told me my total: $20.04.

Hu? Are you sure?

Her response: "Yes! After all those coupons! You did a FABULESS job!!"

I couldn't help but smile....

2 movie tickets and 24 items in my cart. All for $20.04. Most definitely FABULESS!

FABULESS Free (or nearly free) Food!

Here are a bunch of little yummies to fill your tummy - and your pocket book!!

Free Mother's Day Gift

I found this custom T-shirt offer. I thought it would be great for a Mother's Day gift. You can add pictures of you children or whatever your creative mind comes up with.
Mother's Day is May 10th, so you will want to hurry and order to get it to her in time. This offer is FREE, but you do have to pay shipping and handling! Oh and if it is too late for Mother's day I am thinking Father's DAY!

The Honest Coupon Way

We received this comment from one of our Fabuless readers.

Amanda commented on this post.....
"That really sucks that doubles might go away!!! I can see why they might do that though. I was really upset.. I got the morning capri sun drink and got the last 2 on the shelf and then another lady got some regular ones after me and was in front of me at the register. She used the coupon that specifically said the morning kind and got 4 boxes with no problem!!!! I would have much rather had the other kind but was following what the coupon said!!!!! I really wanted to point it out then and there but thought better to not cause a scene!!! Just a little upset about it."

The coupon states in black and white.

CONSUMER: One coupon valid for items indicated.
Any other use constitutes fraud.

Amanda, you were right to only use this coupon on the items stated. I saw the same thing on those Albies doubler days, women buying a different variety than stated on the coupon. I did not say anything either. I am very non-confrontational.

I value integrity and hope that many others still do. I think that many of us have done this before unknowingly or because we have been told by a blog, manager or friend that it is okay because it will ring through. I think most people try to do the right thing and I am not trying to call you out.
I am trying to educate you better though.

I have recently read some Fabuless posts on this subject and Nicole from one of my favorite blogs Being Frugal is Fabulous has agreed to do a guest post.

Nicole is a wife and mom. You can find her blogging regularly at beingfrugalisfabulous.com where she writes about coupons, freebies and finding the best deals at your local drug stores.

I hope you will all allow me to stand on my soapbox today and talk about using coupons the right way. I hope that I have gained the respect of you, my readers, and that you will let me nag you for a minute. This subject is something that I think is really important for several reasons.

Number one, my integrity is more important than saving a few dollars {and you all know how I feel about saving a few dollars!}. Many of the cashiers at my local stores know me and know that I use coupons in the right way. Consequently, they trust me and do not feel the need to scrutinize every coupon, therefore expediting my check out. But more importantly than that, I can feel good about the purchases that I make.

Number two, when someone uses coupons in the wrong way, it ruins the experience for others. If a cashier has had people try and use coupons in a way other than what is intended or try to use a fraudulent coupon, he or she is likely to be more suspect of coupons.

Likewise, last summer I had a heck of a time using ANY printable coupons at Target after someone took a legitimate coupon, that read “$5.00 off any toy purchase” and removed the word “toy” so then the coupon “read $5.00 off ANY purchase.” The coupon was widely distributed, it was even sold on eBay. One person’s actions thousands affected thousands of people’s couponing experience.

Here are my rules for using coupons in an honest and ethical way:

Don’t Use Coupons On Items They Are Not Intended To Be Used For. There are several ways that this can be done. For instance a coupon says $1.00 off shampoo but you use it on a bottle of hairspray. Many times these coupons will go through just fine. However, that is not the intention of the manufacturer. They put the coupon out to promote the shampoo.

The second way to use a coupon in a way in which it was not intended is to not buy the amount that is listed on a coupon. For example a coupon say $1.00 off of 4, and you buy only 2 of that item. Many times the coupon would still scan. However, again, this was not the intent of the manufacturer.

The third way to use a coupon in a way other than what it is intended is to use a coupon that is only intended for a particular merchant at another store. Like if a coupon is good only at Walmart, and you cut that part of the coupon off and take it to Target to use.

You may even have a cashier who allows you to do these things, but it really isn’t up to the cashier because it is not money coming out of the store’s pocket, it is coming out of the pocket of the manufacturer.

Never Use Expired Coupons unless your store has a policy to accept expired coupons. Many times you can use an expired coupon without a cashier noticing, but the store may not get reimbursed for the coupon since it was expired.

Never Photocopy Internet Printable Coupons. There is a reason that manufacturers limit most coupons to print 2 per computer, it is to enforce limits. Photocopying coupons is fraud. Some stores do not take IP coupons because they are leery of photocopied coupons. Many times internet printables are for a higher dollar amount than you can find in your newspaper. We don’t want to kill the goose that laid the golden egg by photocopying coupons.

Only Use One Manufacturer’s Coupon Per Item. I think that one is pretty self explanatory.

Be Careful About Coupons In the pdf Format. I am really careful about the coupons that I promote here on my site. Coupons of the pdf variety are frauds a great deal of the time. A few months back their was a pdf coupon circulating for Colgate. It turns out it was intended to be given to customers in a booklet. Someone scanned the booklet and distributed it via a pdf file. The only pdf coupons I ever list here come straight from the manufacturer’s website.

Be Kind To Your Cashiers. Many cashiers do not understand the rules of coupons. Many do not understand that their store will be reimbursed for the coupon you are using and that you are not trying to steal from the store. That being said, getting nasty with your cashier will get you nowhere. If a cashier will not accept my coupon, I nicely ask them to remove the item and then take up my concern with customer service or try again later.

Thanks Nicole! So please read the details of your coupon and follow what it says!

If you still have questions about the proper use of coupons see this post by Mindi at Mom's Need to Know!

Stockpiling, Recipes and Free Coupons!

Cathy- Look What I Found! This is kind of an inside joke, if you have been to our classes you might already know why. I will let you in on it.
Back in the fall Bisquick was on an awesome sale and Cathy STOCKED up! Later she asked herself, what am I going to do with all of this Bisquick? (If you have been coupon stockpiling I bet you have asked the same thing!) Well if you have been to our class you know, because at each class we give some of our stockpile away and Cathy always brings the Bisquick!
So after our class this last week I told Cathy you need to go online and find some Bisquick recipes to help you use up your stockpile. So this is what I found this morning from General Mills.....
Sign up and you will receive tasty recipes, meal ideas, coupons and more!

Click on the image above and go get your Bisquick recipes! Oh ya and did I mention it is FREE!

What have you stockpiled and then later asked yourself why? Mine right now is granola bars!

A Light at the End of the Tunnel

I paid $18.66 for all of the items you see above. A great deal, right? I think so too, but that is not what this post is about. I'm not going to map out how I did it either, because a lot of the coupons I used I accumulated from random places: an Entertainment Weekly here, a Parents magazine there (yet another motivational reason to frequent the gym, as both of those coupons were discovered while sweating it out on the treadmill!). Instead, this post is about the perfect shopping trip, which this was.

I, like usual, planned it out in advance. I took advantage of the Kraft/General Mills promo at Albertsons, so I organized my shopping list in groups of $10 (although you do not have to separate the transactions at check out w/ this promo). Because I am still relatively new to couponing, I always try to have a back-up plan if they are out of stock, to keep me from having to recalculate everything while standing in the aisles. But my back-up plan was not necessary on this trip.

They had every item on my list in stock. There were no lines when I went to check out. The cashier was extremely friendly. All of the promotions worked flawlessly. And, although I had a coupon for almost every item purchased, not a single one beeped. When I had completed my transaction, I checked my receipt to see how closely the total reflected what it should have been (I always add up my shopping trip BEFORE I head to the store, so I have a ballpark figure of what the bill should look like). It was, to the penny, the exact total I had calculated! I walked out of the store almost giddy.

But, this is not the norm. If you are a beginning couponer (and the easiest way to tell is if you still believe fabuless is spelled fabulous, and you don't argue with your computer when it tries to tell you couponer is not a verb), do NOT expect a shopping trip like this. Expect to get a grumpy cashier. Expect to have half the hot items on your list out of stock. Expect a few coupons to beep every time, requiring an override, tying up the line and making your embarrassment grow. Expect to be harassed, overcharged, glared at. It happens, and probably will continue to happen, all the time.

So celebrate an amazing shopping trip like this, but expect a few that will make you want to rip your hair out. I, for one, will not judge you if I see you in a crumpled heap in the back of the store, frazzled, frustrated, and crying alongside your wailing children. I've been there too. And I promise you this, although I have no cure for screaming children (FYI-I hear candy always helps), it does get easier. And, as the photo above shows, it is worth it!

ps. Yes, I accidentally dropped a few of those 2-liters, as the bubbles prove. And no, I will not be warning my husband (insert evil laugh here).

Stamp Price Increase

May 11, 2009 that cost of stamps is going up .02. If you buy Forever Stamps now you will still be able to use them FOREVER before or after May 11, and you will have bought them for .02 less per stamp. Might want to get a pack of 100 next time you are at Costco or get some at your local post office. Hey every little bit helps. Go here for more details on this change.

4 packs 2/$3
6 packs 2/$6

More free Ecotrin at Walgreens!

****UPDATE: This coupon doesn't appear to be rolling anymore! I tried to buy a few more tonight and it only printed out one time in 6. Sorry gals!***
If you don't have many/any coupons for Ecotrin at Walgreens this week, when you buy 1 Ecotrin for $2 plus tax, it will print out a manufacture's coupon for $2 off of Ecotrin. So you can buy 1 in one transaction, then use it in the next, and keep rolling it from transaction to transaction! Don't confuse this with the Register Reward for $2 that prints out which can be used on anything, or a new $2 Register Reward will not print out. See Monica's entire post about Walgreen's this week here. The top image is the Register Reward for the Ecotrin (not rolling), the bottom is the coupon (rolling).
If you are rolling several Register Rewards this week with multiple transactions, be sure to keep track of which RR is for which deal/product so you don't, for example, accidentally use the RR from the Nivea body wash to pay for another Nivea body wash (a new RR won't print out!)
If you're not sure which RR was from which deal this week- here's some help from what I bought:
*Under the Walgreens name on the RR if the retailer is J&J Cons Prd, it's from the band-aid/neosporin/benadryl deal.
*If the retailer is Bayer Hlth, it's from the Bayer Contour Meter.
*If the retailer is Schwarzkoph, it's from the Got2B styling products.
*If the retailer is GSK, it's from the Ecotrin.
*If the retailer is Beiersdorf it's from Nivea body wash. (Thanks Foster Family!)

Crest White Strips Advanced Seal

Here is a sample of Crest White Strips Advanced Seal. I actually recommend Crest White Strips to my patients that can not afford tray whitening or in-office whitening. I will have to try this one out and see if I like it.

Dove Deodorant

Sorry this is gone already!

Here is a Dove Deodorant sample from Costco. I love this deodorant and so does my husband he always steals this one from me!
