Seriously. Get Your Post Coupons. NOW.

We've received several emails and comments about the subject. So for those of you who haven't noticed all the talk about Post. I'm going to bring it to your attention right now!!

Here is what we DO know:
Post Cereal is on Catalina until 3/21
The Post cereal sale will begins at Albertsons on 3/17
There are $1.00/2 Post Cereal Coupons on eBay

Here is what we've heard:
The cereal will be priced at $1.47 (this could vary by a few cents, we don't have a visual)

The ad will include DOUBLES! If this is the case we will be getting FREE cereal baby!

Here is what we don't know:
Exactly which varieties are included.
We do know that these varieties were included last year.

Even with the few unknowns, IF YOU WANT SOME CHEAP CEREAL YOU MUST TAKE A LEAP OF FAITH AND ORDER YOUR COUPONS NOW!!!

The sale begins Wednesday 3/17. If you wait and order your coupons then, you run the risk of not getting them before the catalina deal ends SUNDAY the 21st is the LAST DAY to take advantage of the catalina!!!

Last year many of the stores were VERY WELL STOCKED. And I'm sure over the past 12 months, they've seen the increase in couponers and WILL be well stocked. At this point, we can't suggest a special order, because we don't know the exact varieties. BUT, you can talk to your manager and tell them to order a BUNCH because the sale will be HOTTEST the first part of the sale.

Scenario:

TRANSACTION ONE:

Purchase 5 boxes at $1.59 each ($7.95 total)
USE: (2) $1.00/2 Post Cereal Coupons on eBay (less $2.00)
FINAL OOP: $5.95 (or $1.19 each)
RECEIVE: catalina for $4.00 (because you purchased 5+ boxes)

TRANSACTION TWO:
Purchase 5 boxes at $1.59 each ($7.95 total)
USE: $4.00 catalina received on first transaction
FINAL OOP: $1.95 (or $.39 each)
RECEIVE: catalina for $4.00

And do it over and over again (most stores will allow you to do 3 transactions in a row).

And what is even more thrilling to think about, if there are DOUBLES in the Wednesday ad, THIS WILL BE CEREAL YOU CAN MAKE MONEY ON!!! YIKES! That's just wickedly insane!

SO. You REALLY REALLY REALLY need to decide how many boxes of cereal you want, and go purchase $1.00/2 Post Cereal Coupons on eBay. Share with friends if you don't need a set of 15 or 20. If you don't know how to order, but want some, I'm willing to help you with this (if you're local). Just let me know ASAP via email (fabulesslyfrugal at gmail dot com).

Feel free to read my (lengthy) tutorial called eBay 101. Also, check out Monica's post about How to Place an Order at Albertsons.

Good point made by reader Katie:
"Be careful not to buy the ones that say "kids favorites". Those coupons only cover 4 varieties." (unless those are the varieties you want of course)

UPDATE:
Do the "buy it now auctions" and then sort by "newly listed" and this will be the easiest way to find the non-kid coupons. They are being added continually, so keep your eyes peeled!! :) (see screen shot - click to enlarge)

Just FYI, it's a slightly better deal to buy 5 at a time. They end up being $0.27 each (compared to $0.30+). And it uses one fewer coupon per transaction so you can buy more with fewer coupons.

Brian -

You're right! I did the math if you purchased just 4 boxes (would only receive a $3 catalina), and it was better to do the 6. I then forgot to test out the scenario with 5. Thanks for covering for me! :)

I got my coupons about a week ago when you first suggested it. Thanks so much!!! For those that didn't do this sale last year, it was amazing! (I still have some Selects left over, but am in need of a restock.)

With 5 will you still get the same price on the 5th? I was reading the info from last years sale and it looked like you had to buy 2 at a time to get the $1.47 price? The fifth ended up being $2.07 or something like that? Just curious, trying to do my planning! :)

Mama Yo said...

Not sure on it yet Sophie.

WhoooHooo! Got my coupons and I'm ready! Well, almost - gotta get my dad to build another shelf in the top of the pantry to hold all of my cereal! :)

I bid on some a couple days ago and was outbid at the last minute :) What is your take on buying ones that don't have a picture of the actual coupon posted? It makes me a little nervous, but that is all that is left it looks like!!!

Anonymous said...

What do you know about Ebay raising the prices for clipper's? Looks like we may lose this as an option after April 1. Many clipper's may quit instead of pay the increase.

katiepanike,
If you click on them they show the coupon under the logo (at least the dog does-Fiona's)

I bought my coupons without there being a picture and it turned out fine. Just becareful not to buy the ones that say "kids favorites" Those coupons only cover 4 varieties.

I took the plunge and bought the coupons - hoping that the varieties are the same. My husband loves shredded wheat! thanks for the insider info!!

Kristi M. said...

I asked my assistant store director today at my favorite caldwell store about it. He told me that the price per box is $1.59 each. That would still make it an awesome deal regardless but not as low as being reported.

This was the sale that got me really started couponing last year! I am so excited as my cereal shelf has lots of space (well, except for the fruit snacks that have spilled over into cereal space!)

Which sets of coupons did you buy? What is a good price? How long do they take to get delivered to Idaho? Am I already too late? Maybe i should just read your post. :)

Lisa said...

Looking on eBay, all the coupons I think I could use for this deal are being bid on and are well over $3... some are even at $8 for 20 coupons! This isn't turning out to be the deal I had hoped for. :(

Aubrie Olsen said...

You're best bet for ebay coupons is a buy it now option. I just barely bought 20 for under $2.00. Then you don't have to worry about being outbid or waiting for it to end.

Mama Yo said...

Amen Aubrie! I've tried twice to update the post with that info and my computer crashed (twice). I agree 100% with you.

Unknown said...

I was just going to say the same thing - looks like its $1.99 for 10 $1/2 post coupons with the "buy it now" option. I'm taking my chances with this one ;-) no coupons, I mean...am I going to regret it? I've got so much cereal, but I am hoping to find a couple coupons, maybe we will get some this weekend? Its actually a great deal even without them after factoring in the catalina.

Tyree said...

I searched then hit more recent posted coupons and some came up that had both kinds (kids and reg) coups 20 of each with a buy it now for $1.50 and 99cent shipping. I figured $2.49 was worth it. I still think/hope we'll get some in sundays ad, but then I'll regret ordering the coupons. I am iffy on the whole buying coupons thing, breaks the spirit of the law, so I bent my own personal rule on this on.

Unknown said...

OT - but does anyone know what insert the kellogs .50/2 is?? for the life of me i cannot find it :(

Mama Yo said...

Tyree -

Not sure why you think getting coupons in eBay breaks the spirit of the law. I think Amber said it best,

"The money people pay for those coupons goes towards the time it takes the seller to clip and sort them NOT for the actual coupon. That would be illegal. We can only hope the seller was ethical in how they came to possess the coupons!

Many are allowed access to thousands of excess inserts and take the time to clip them and put them on eBay. In that instance, the manufacturer chose the number of coupons they wanted to produce and so I see nothing unethical about getting those coupons into the hands of consumers who WILL buy their products!

Mama Yo said...

Russell -

Are you talking about the $1.00/2 Kellogg's coupon? It was just in this past Sundays (3/7) Red Plum.

By the way, what does "OT" mean?

A said...

Cathy, it means Off Topic :)

Mama Yo said...

ha ha - thanks AJ. :)

Unknown said...

yes, got it, thank you!!!

Julie said...

I just wanted to add that I was looking on eBay and couldn't find any of the coupons except for the "kids favorites" so I happened to go look at The Coupon Master, and there were some listed there. The Coupon Master is charging .10 each (for their time to clip and sort them, of course), plus shipping, so if anyone still wants some Post Qs, you might try there.

Fabulessly Frugal said...

Ebay keeps updating all the time so just check back later in the day if you do not see what you are looking for!

Mama Yo said...

I just updated the post with an idea of keeping an eye on the newly listed ones! 10 minutes ago there were four new sets (they are gone now though). Remember to calculate your savings... is it worth $4 or $5 to save $20 (or $40 if there are doubles)? It is to me! :)

Shannon said...

Cathy,
Thanks for your help with the post sale. I took the plunge and bought some coupons off e-bay. I have never bought anything off e-bay so was nervous. I figured if it doesn't work out I am hopefully only out 2.00. Thanks for the post on e-bay. Very helpful. I did buy from one that did not have a pic but he was 100% feedback so we will see. I also wanted to let you know a thrifty mom has the coupon preview for Sunday posted and there ARE post coupons in it! Yeah! Either way I should have my hands on some coupons for this sale. Now I just need to get into Albertsons and pre-order!
Thanks Again!

The crazy chaos I call life... said...

The fruity pebble and cocoa pebbles will be included in the sale. :)

Mama Yo said...

Shannon -

Way to go! Glad I could help.

Post coupons would be awesome, but keep in mind that not every region will get every coupon listed. Example, we didn't get the last Post coupons that came in the 2/28 insert. All the better if we do! :)

luvmyboys said...

I dont know about anyone else but when I received my Post coupon order from ebay the seller thru in 10 xtra coupons at no cost!! woot! woot! =) Also, are we supposed to pre order with a store manager if we want x amount of boxes then? Does anyone know?

Mama Yo said...

Talk to your manager and let him know how many you are planning on purchasing and see if he'll place an order. I'm guessing that the majority of the stores will be very well stocked... BUT you'll want to talk to your manager and make sure he will be, or he'll order you some. :)

Mama Yo said...

OH - I've done the same with my GM and am just waiting to hear back from him.

They may look at you funny since "no one is supposed to know yet". ;)

luvmyboys said...

Thanx Cathy! I love this website and all the effort you put forth in helping all of us to save money!! =)

Tyree said...

Coupon preview looks like we might get some in Sunday's paper :) (I know we didn't last time, but I've had a feeling we would so I guess we'll see.) I was wondering are all post cereal inclueded in the Catalina???

Martha said...

If we get doublers (like I've heard we will on Sunday and they'll last for the week), wouldn't going back to six boxes be a better deal since you can get the extra $1 with the doubler.

Buy 5 @ $1.50 = $7.50
Use 2 $1/2 = $2
Double 2 = $2
Received $4 Cat = $.50 moneymaker

Buy 6 @ $1.50 = $9.00
Use 3 $1/2 = $3
Double 3 = $3
Receive $4 Cat = $1 moneymaker

Maybe I figured this wrong, let me know, but if doubles do come out (which my store told me yesterday they were coming...and I've heard elsewhere that they were coming on Sunday and lasting all week...I can't confirm though) than 6 would be the better deal. Without doubles 5 would be the better deal.

Can't wait to hear what cereals are in the promo. When you find out which ones, we'd love to hear!!!!

Hi all, Hot coupon world is posting that kids cereals are not included in the catalina deal =(

Lucas said...

With doubles buying five would still be better than buying six because you could stretch out your doublers into more transactions by only using two per transaction. It would maximize your savings.
i.e.
6 boxes at $1.59 each = $9.54
Use 3 $1/2 = $3
Double 3 = $3
Receive $4 Cat = $.46 moneymaker

5 boxes at $1.59 each = $7.95
Use 2 $1/2 = $2
Double 2 = $2
Received $4 Cat = $.05 moneymaker

If you have six sets of doublers and buy in increments of 6 you can get 36 boxes and make $2.76 profit.

If you have six sets of doublers and buy in increments of 5 you can get 45 boxes and make $.45 profit.

It would also be easier to roll the catalinas because you could just have them double one of the $1/2 coupons at $.95 instead of a dollar and thereby avoid dealing with the whole total being less than tax issue since everything you're getting is free.

If you buy 6 per transaction and try to roll the deal you'll need a filler for the $.46 you'll make off each transaction.

Lucas said...

I hope that last point made sense. It ends up meaning that you get more boxes for free and less hassle with rolling the catalinas.

Fabulessly Frugal said...

Wouldn't you also need a .05 item or more to roll doing 5 per transaction?

If you buy in 5 it is .01 profit per box and buy in 6 it is .07 profit per box. That would make up for the tax.

You bring up a great point. We will have to be careful how we roll the catalinas so that we do not drop below the subtotal. The store will not pay us to shop there.

This is going to be a fun sale for sure!

I got my flyer for the Sunday paper today, and the only cereal on sale is Kelloggs. Does that mean Post cereal will be in a week or so?

Unknown said...

KJinSeattle - The Post Cereal deal/sale is coming up on wednesday! We are all gearing up for it

Tricia said...

KjinSeattle - the Kellogg's sale is still from this past week since Albertsons runs their sales Wed-Tuesday usually. So the Sunday ad for tomorrow probably shows this past week's sale items (but I think the doublers on there are good all week.) The new ad with the Post sale will come out on Wednesday!

Lucas said...

Instead of finding a filler for the $.05 on the post catalina deal when you buy five, you can just have teh cashier make one of your doublers $.95 off instead of $1. I'd rather give up the $.05 than have to find a little filler item to cover the distance when rolling the catalinas.

Anonymous said...

Thanks Tricia, our doublers are only good for three days. The last ad for the CHILL promo was Sunday through Saturday. However, this week it was Wed through Tues. Ill look in the Wed ad and maybe we will get some doublers on the weekend!

So I am so sad :( that our doublers are only good through Tuesday.

Amber said...

Sophie,
Word on the street is another set of doubles will be making an appearance in Wednesday's paper. Keep your fingers crossed!

Sophie said...

Well of course they would do that to us! Then we will have to go buy lots of Wednesday papers! Worth it though for FREE cereal.

We are hearing that the sugar kids cereals are included this year, so if you bought those coupons on ebay sound like you will still be able to use them.

Jen said...

I'm so excited for this sale! My oldest LOVES honey bunches of oats. He'd eat it for every meal if I let him! And yes sometimes I give my kids a treat of sugary cereal, so I think everyone in my house will be happy this week! Thanks so much for the hard work you guys do in putting together this blog! It's a real headache saver for me!

Tiffany said...

maybe a loaded question. . . but how do you ethically justify buying coupons on ebay when it says "void if sold, purchased. . ." etc? Wondering?

Mama Yo said...

Tiffany -

You're not the only one who has asked, and I'm going to quote Amber who replied to this same question last month in a different post:

"The money people pay for those coupons goes towards the time it takes the seller to clip and sort them NOT for the actual coupon. That would be illegal. We can only hope the seller was ethical in how they came to possess the coupons!
