Walgreen's Friends and Family Day (Plus a HOT Shopping Trip!)

Walgreen's Friends and Family Day is BACK!

This Friday ONLY! Go HERE to print your coupon. You can use one coupon per purchase. If your plan is to do multiple transactions (like the scenarios below), print as many as you will need.

I'm kicking myself for not waiting, but I can't complain. I got everything pictured below and I MADE $3.63!!
I went to 2 different Walgreens and did this in 3 transactions, following the deals we told you about HERE. I started out with a $10 Register Reward or RR (like Walgreen's cash) from a deal I did last week. But for the sake of some of you who are just starting out, I will do the scenarios without taking the RR into account. But I will use the Friends and Family 15% discount!

Also, because your coupon to item ratio has to be even (for every coupon or RR you hand the cashier, you must have an equal number of items purchased), I used little caramels as filler items. Notice you do not see the caramels pictured. It is because they have taken up permanent residency on my thighs. Note to self: DO NOT use caramels as filler items. The scale will thank you.

Transaction 1:
1 Dove Men's body wash 13.05 oz $5.99
2 Ritz cracker 4oz $1 each (on sale for $.99, but ask them to adjust the price up so you can use the coupon)
2 Luxurious Volume and 1 Root Awakening John Frieda Shampoo 3/$15
1 Bayer Contour Blood Glucose Monitor $14.99
1 Gillette Fusion Razor $8.99
1 caramel filler item $.33 (I warned you about these so no complaining if you can't button your pants)

TOTAL:  $47.30 (plus tax)

USE:
The 15% off Friends and Family Coupon   Takes off $7.10 for this purchase!
$1.50/1 (must sign up) Dove Men's Care Body Wash. Can also use $1/1 or $1.25/1  RP-1/31
$2/2  Nabisco Cracker Products
$2/1 Root Awakening Shampoos & 2 $2.50/1 Luxurious Volume (prints no longer available). Can also use  $5/2.
Up to $30/1 Bayer Contour or Breeze 2 Blood Glucose Monitors RP-10/25 (Just takes off the purchase price of $14.99)
$4/1 Gillette Fusion Razor P&G-2/7

TOTAL SAVINGS: $36.59!

OUT OF POCKET: $10.71

$6 RR from the Dove Men's Body Wash

$4 RR from the Gillette Razor

$4.29 MONEYMAKER!

Transaction 2:
1 Dove Men's body wash 13.05 oz $5.99
1 Bayer Contour Blood Glucose Monitor $14.99
1 Gillette Fusion Razor $8.99
2 caramel filler items $.66

$4 RR from the Gillette Razor

$8.45 MONEYMAKER!

I've just recently started following frugal blogs and noticed that a lot of people are getting the "free" glucose monitors. I wondered what you all do with them since I wouldn't think you'd need more than one per diabetic person in your household. Do you donate them or what? Just curious.

I personally have given a few to family members with diabetes, but the majority I donate to Humphries Diabetes Center and the Boise Rescue Mission. They are ecstatic to get these!

My husband has Type 1 diabetes so I purchase them for use in our food storage (stocking medical supplies in addition to food supplies is very important!). I know many people locally who donate them to the Humphrey's Diabetes Center and I think that is wonderful!

Wow- will 3 RR's print out if they are all in the same transaction, but different RR's?? Like your razor, body wash and john frieda products? I thought only one would spit out, so I've been doing totally different transactions! Please respond and I'll make my life a little easier :)

Heather,
I did that transaction exactly as I posted (minus the 15% off coupon) and all of the RR printed! If the promos are separate (ie. the razors deal and the John Frieda deal), then multiple RR will print. But if you bought 2 razors, only 1 $4 RR would print. Make sense?

I wanted to know how to get the coupon for the glucose monitor. My sister in law has diabetes and hasn't been able to buy a monitor and I wanted to get it for her. Can you please let me know how I can get the coupon. By the way, thanks much for the heads up on the diapers, I have twins and plan to stock up on them.

kperales25, I have a monitor I will give you. Do you live in the Boise area? Email me at ajmeister625@gmail.com and we can figure out the best way for me to get it to you.

Hi. I am trying to figure out why you buy so many monitors. I understand that they are free--but is there a rebate? What benefit do you receive by these? I'd love to know the strategy! Thanks.

mugwump-

Read the comments above to see why some of the ladies are buying the monitors.
Also keep in mind these are starter kits and so they do not have a lot of test strips. You need several to meet the demands of glucose testing. Refill strips are VERY EXPENSIVE! Why not get them for FREE!

Actually they work out to be moneymakers. You pay for the monitor with a coupon you only pay tax, then you get $10 RR (WALGREENS STORE CASH) to use to buy something else.

Am I making sense?

Heads up, I used the 15%off today on the john frieda and it made them just a few cents cheaper so that I didn't spend 15 so the RR did not print, I was doing it with a bunch of other stuff and so I didn't catch it. Luckily the manager was great and let me fix it but just pay attention that the %15 doesn't throw cost you a register reward.

Monica--thank you. I didn't see any info about a $10 RR. Where is that listed? I can see the idea now.

mugwump: You will find that on Ambers walgreens post here: http://www.fabulesslyfrugal.com/2010/02/walgreens-27-213.html

fyi, In trans 3, you used a $4 RR from Gillette Razor, so normally you wouldn't receive another one at the end. Because you cant roll these RR's.

Amber said...

Fifsters,

I also used the $4 RR from the Gillette in trans. #2 and put a little note about it. I forgot to carry the note down to trans. #3. Good catch. While RR at Walgreens are rarely rollable, the Gillette RR IS a rolling cat! Both times it printed out another Gillette RR. But YMMV because often, when someone gets wind that the RR is rolling, they stop it. But for now, roll away!! :)

Myranda,
It has been reported that there is a $10 RR printing on the glucose monitors, but I did not receive one. There was noone in the store when I was doing my transaction so the cashier played with it. We tried buying 2 in 1 purchase and then tried switching the Bayer Contour with the Bayer Breeze 2, but we could never get a RR to print. We called the cat company and they had said there was no RR for that product at this time, so I removed it from the post.
